JANISE'S JIVIN' BOOK BLOG
Interviewing up and coming indie authors
New and up and coming Interviews done are now a combine effort of Janise and Mandy.
We have a special interview in-store for you. Mandy had the pleasure of meeting Kenny who is part of the Rock group Nova Rex at a Rockfest in August of this year and found out that Kenny is in the process of releasing a book to help an autistic organization.
Rockin' Recipes for Autism Vol. 1 is available to pre-order now, links to pre-order are at the end of the interview.
Q: Where did you come up with the Idea to do this book Rockin’ Recipes for Autism Cookbook?
A couple of years ago, I had a Sunday night radio show on a RM station out of Fl and I was interviewing a lot of the people that were in the book. I was talking food with one of the guys and he sent me his grandma’s recipe. Then it just became a thing.
Q: What is We Rock for Autism Charity about?
We Rock for Autism is a 501(c)(3) non profit located in South Florida. Their goal is to provide music therapy to children with autism, as well as host family friendly events, concerts and more.
Through their network of service providers and volunteers, they hope to improve the communication skills of children through music.
Q: What can you tell us about the book that the readers and people in general might want to know?
Everybody in the book has been really cool with donating their time and a lot of them are actually good cooks and have owned restaurants or they have submitted one of their traditional family recipes.
Q: What advice can you give to Parents/Grandparents who have children/grandchildren with Autism?
Find a good support network. All children are gifts without manuals. More people are aware of or have heard about autism so the support is there - just look for it.
Q: When will Rockin’ Recipes for Autism be released?
All recipes have been submitted and it is in the process of being published. We are hoping to have it by the end of the year.
Q: Was it hard to get other musicians to help get you the recipes?
Surprisingly no. Everybody that is in this cookbook, some with autistic family members, were very generous and happy to help.
Q: What other projects are in the works?
Internet radio on Monday nights, upcoming soundtrack in a movie.
Q: Do you have a certain ritual you do before going onstage to perform?
Spit and stretch
Q: Do you like to read? If so who is your favorite author(s)?
I don’t mind reading if it is something that I am interested in. I like Stephen King
Q: Have you tried out all the recipes that are going to be in your book?
I have not tried them all out but I am working on it.
Kenny Wilkerson helped form Nova Rex in 1985 and they are still rocking to this day. VH1 ranked them 50 of the greatest Hairbands of the 80’s. Nova Rex has been immortalized in the Smithsonian representing 80’s metals fashion as well as having a permanent display at the Hard Rock in Daytona. Kenny and Nova Rex have much planned in the coming Year. They will be doing the Dirty Thirty tour with Warrant
