Interviewing up and coming indie authors
Hey there everyone! Recently Courtney and I did a poll on our Facebook page asking if you would read a romance novel written by a man. Well the poll has spoken you guys are fierce and majority said YES!!!!
We want to reward you all with a little treat...grab some coffee or your favorite energy drink...pull up a seat...we bring you an up close and intimate morning with non other than W.S. Greer
He is the author of The Love and chaos series book 1 Madman and is taking the romance world and our hearts by storm
1. What got you into writing and becoming a romance author?
I got into writing when I got into reading. I was only reading for about a year before I wrote my first book, Frozen Secrets. While I was reading, I started to wonder how authors come up with stories and keep them all lined up, especially the ones with the twist endings. One day, I was outside shoveling snow at my house in Alaska, and I asked my wife if she’d tell on her own father if he was a serial killer. The next thing I knew, I’d gone inside and written the prologue for Frozen Secrets. I finished the rest of the book 30 days later.
2. Can you tell us about your most recent release Madman?
Madman is a story that was a long time coming. I came up with the main character, Solomon King, while watching Suicide Squad. I wanted to create my own version of The Joker based on Jared Leto’s portrayal of the character. Obviously The Joker needs his Harley Quinn, so Reina Wilde came to life! I wanted 2 villainous characters to wreak havoc on a city, but I also wanted the world to know how they got that way, so I needed to start from their beginning. They go deeper and get crazier as their story goes on. The two of them are far from done!
3. What is your writing process like?
It’s meticulous. I take tons of notes and try to build my characters as deeply as I can. They all have back-stories that tend to never make it into the books, and I outline the entire book first, and then outline chapter by chapter as I write the story out. It gets pretty deep.
4. Where do you get your ideas?
Everywhere and nowhere. Sometimes an idea for a story will just pop into my head while I’m eating dinner or washing my car. Other times, a song title will trigger an entire story, or a character from a movie I’m watching will do it. I like to do “my version” of a character I’ve already seen, and then build a story around that character. My next book is based on three different stories that I combine and pull from to create my own character & story. It’s gonna be out of this world!
5. What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?
Of mine? If we’re talking about my own books, then my 5th book, Defending Her, is one of my absolute faves. It was the first time I had to study like crazy to create a story, because the protagonist in Defending Her is a lawyer, so I had to really work to bring his story to life. I felt like I could’ve passed the bar exam by the time I was finished with it. The book went completely unnoticed for whatever reason, but it’s one of my favorites that I wish more people knew about.
6. What is something that your followers do not know about you?
I’m a total choir nerd! I grew up singing in choirs and I absolutely love to sing still. I do it all the time, and I’m pretty decent, if I do say so myself! I’ve actually recorded over a hundred songs in my life. Ah, the good ole days!
7. So W.S. inquiring minds want to know when you aren't writing bad-ass novels and trying to make women's hearts pitter patter, what do you do in your free time?
I’m all about my family. I just try to be a good husband & father, as well as a good Airman, because I’m also active duty US Air Force. I try to squeeze some workouts in there somewhere, but that’s about it. Between my military career, writing, and my family, there isn’t a whole lot of time for much else, but that’s the way I like it!
We want to thank you once again W.S. for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with Janise's Jivin Book Blog.
